My name is Shanna Abergel. I began my teaching career 15 years ago after graduating with a B.S in Elementary Education from the University of Maryland, College Park. I taught third grade in Rockville, MD for two years before moving with my loving husband to California. Since then, I have taught Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades with The Los Angeles Unified School District. Prior to teaching at the elementary level, I taught pre-school at a private school in Maryland for four years. My husband and I have a son in the fifth grade as well as a 4 year old son.
I had the privilege of serving the teachers, staff, students, families, and community of Limerick Avenue Elementary for three years as Limerick's Math and Literacy Coach. I completed my Masters in Education Leadership and Policy at California State University, Northridge in 2012. You may have already heard me speak at a parent meeting, Kindergarten Orientation, or School Site Council meeting over the past few years.
I am very excited to further serve the staff, students, and families of Limerick Avenue Elementary as the Blended Learning-STEAM Teacher. In this role, I will support teachers in the inclusion of 21st century teaching models and strategies. These include Blended Learning, Integrated Lessons, Technology Integration, Project Based Learning, and STEAM. Additionally, I hold parent technology training-meetings every Friday. I meet with a student technology council monthly. Students share technology-STEAM successes and requests for support and materials on behalf of their classmates. It is my goal to assist all stakeholders at Limerick Avenue Elementary in fostering a 21st century teaching and learning environment.
Creative investigation and experimentation is very highly valued in our Limerick classrooms. Your child will be encouraged to question, conjecture, predict, investigate, experiment, quantify, demonstrate, evaluate, justify, and present throughout the school year. Our Project Based Learning emphasis on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) is not only FUN, but highly aligned to the California Common Core State Standards. Our goal is to provide your student with the tools to access meaningful learning experiences and be college and career ready in a 21st century workforce.
Parent/Family communication is VERY important to the teachers and staff at Limerick Avenue Elementary. Please be sure to register for updates to your child’s classroom webpage on this site. If you ever need web-technology support, please do not hesitate to email me or visit me in room 52. I am looking forward to an exciting and enriching school year.
